The Doorstep Break
Cold-chain items left in ambient conditions until somebody gets home.
Temperature is controlled from manufacture through distribution — and then a medicine is handed to whoever is home, or left at a door to wait. Both the cooling and the record stop there. Lockera extends the controlled chain to the moment the patient opens the compartment.
One system for prescription pickup, cold-chain collection, sample drop-off and controlled-medicine access.
Temperature is monitored from manufacture through distribution. Then a medicine reaches a doorstep, is handed to whoever answers or left somewhere to be collected later, and both the temperature record and the custody record stop.
Cold-chain items left in ambient conditions until somebody gets home.
Medication that needed to arrive today arriving next week.
Chronic refills requiring a trip to a counter every month.
No record of the temperature a medicine actually experienced.
Scheduled items needing restricted, provable access.
Diagnostic samples that have to move within a window.
How one break in the chain turns into a cost across the whole operation.
5 challenges · 5 operational costs · 1 break in the chain behind all of them
Lockera is more than a medicine locker. It is a controlled, temperature-logged handover layer for everything a pharmacy, hospital or lab gives out and takes back.
Patients collect dispensed medication with a single-use code, at any hour.
Refrigerated compartments hold cold-chain items until collection.
Repeat medication waiting near home instead of at a counter.
Timed, temperature-aware deposit for lab collection.
Restricted compartments with dual authorisation and full logging.
Unused and expired medication deposited for safe handling.
| Measure | Doorstep delivery | Lockera cold-chain collection |
|---|---|---|
| Temperature control | Ends at handover | Held until collection |
| Temperature record | Stops at dispatch | Logged continuously |
| First-attempt success | Depends on presence | Independent of presence |
| Collection window | A delivery slot | Self-collection, any hour |
| Custody record | A signature or a photo | Identity, time and temperature |
| Controlled items | Handed over in person | Restricted, dual authorisation |
| Chronic refills | A monthly counter visit | Collected near home |
| Excursion evidence | Not available | Exportable per item |
Lockera is a complete hardware, cloud software and integration stack, engineered for items whose condition has to be provable as well as their custody.
Modular steel lockbanks mixing refrigerated and ambient compartments, with electronic solenoids, touchscreens, cameras, continuous temperature sensing and battery backup, specified for pharmacy, hospital, lab and public siting.
Per-compartment temperature history, dwell and expiry alerts, excursion flags, batch and order mapping, restricted-access logs, and an exportable record per item.
Single-use OTP and QR collection tied to the dispensing record, with APIs into pharmacy, hospital and lab systems so an order moves through dispensed, ready and collected in your own software.
Product integrity, failed deliveries, patient convenience and controlled-item access all trace back to the same moment: where the chain stops being monitored.
Controlled temperature all the way to the point of collection.
A temperature history attached to every item.
Collection that does not depend on somebody being in.
Repeat medication collected near home.
Restricted compartments with dual authorisation.
Timed drop-off with alerts before a window closes.
Store-front and after-hours collection points.
Collection points instead of failed home delivery.
Discharge and outpatient medication handover.
Sample drop-off and report collection.
Controlled transfer between links in the chain.
Vaccine and scheme medication distribution at scale.
We map item types, temperature ranges, volumes and collection patterns.
Refrigerated and ambient compartment mix, siting, access roles and alert thresholds.
Installation, temperature validation, and integration with pharmacy, hospital or lab systems.
Patients, couriers and pharmacy teams start collecting and depositing immediately.
Once the pharmacy has dispensed and placed the item in a compartment, the patient receives a single-use OTP and QR code against the dispensing record. They enter it at the unit and the correct compartment opens. Collection happens on their schedule rather than in a delivery slot, and the opening is recorded with a timestamp.
Compartments are specified per site: ambient, controlled room temperature, and refrigerated ranges for cold-chain items such as insulin, biologics and vaccines. A single bank can mix ranges, so a pharmacy is not forced to run separate units for cold and ambient items.
Each temperature-controlled compartment senses continuously and writes to the same log as the custody record, so an item carries a temperature history from the moment it is placed to the moment it is collected. That history is exportable per item, which is the part a doorstep handover cannot provide.
An excursion raises an alert immediately, to the pharmacy and on the dashboard, while there is still time to act rather than after the fact. The event is flagged against the affected items so a decision about the product can be made on evidence rather than assumption.
Restricted compartments can require a specific role, or two authorised identities, before opening, with every attempt logged including failures. This enforces access control at the compartment; it sits inside your existing dispensing and regulatory process and does not replace pharmacist authorisation or your record-keeping obligations.
Yes. A deposit compartment can accept a timed sample drop with its own temperature range and collection window, alerting the lab courier as the window closes so a sample is not left beyond the point where it remains viable.
Lockera exposes APIs for compartment allocation, notification, collection events and temperature history, so an order moves through dispensed, ready and collected inside your own pharmacy, hospital or lab software, and the temperature record attaches to the same order.
You set a holding window per item class. Reminders go out as it closes, the item is flagged once it passes, and it is listed for retrieval with its full temperature history so the pharmacy can decide what to do with it under its own policy.
Units carry battery backup, so access and temperature monitoring continue through an outage and patients can still collect using offline codes. Cooling hold-over time depends on the configuration and is specified per site, and any excursion during an outage is recorded like any other.
Keep temperature and custody under control all the way to the moment of collection.
